Final Assembly

We are at the final assembly, things will happen fast now!

I started with restoring the stainless trim.  A little dent repair and then off to the buffing wheel.  It's a very time consuming job that really pays off.

The corners of the headliner needed to be re-glued.  These binder clamps work TERRIFIC for doing headliners.

I installed the door panels and handles.

The top of the back seat was destroyed by direct sunlight.  He had ordered the optional cloth seats hen he purchased it new.

The rest of the upholstery is in pretty good condition.  The springs are amazingly clean and wont need any sandblasting or repair.

Off with old and on with the new.

A perfect fit.

Headlight doors, grill and rear trim is installed.

I've been avoiding cutting and buffing the HUGE hood.

A little side by side of 5000 grit compared to buffed.

Beautiful!

And with a little help it's back home on the car.  After some adjustment it opens and closes like new.

After sand blasting the rims they were painted the correct Argent Silver.  A little tip I learned a long time ago is to buy a couple decks of cards from the dollar store and use them around the edge of the rim.  It's much easier than trying to mask it off and definitely easier than taking the tires off.

Major step here, installing a new vinyl top.  First everything that you don't want glue on is masked off.

Got distracted and didn't get any pictures during the installation.  It laid down very nicely!

The stainless trim really completes the look.

This is the only contact cement I would recommend for vinyl tops and gluing vinyl on boats etc.

The seal and new trim clips are in place for the rear window.

The back glass is set in place.

After going around the edges and pushing it down with force I use soap and water around the edge and use a blow gun from the inside.  Any gaps or leaks show up immediately.

Window trim and bumpers are on, one final polish and it's ready to go home.

That's it!  I'm done with this beautiful old girl, it's a little bittersweet.

I'm very proud of the work and how she turned out.

Here is a short walk around of her.

Thank you for looking, stay tuned for the next project!
